Auditioning for Teens – Acting/Musical Theatre

Class Overview

Just say the word ‘audition’ to most actors and an audible sigh and groan is released. Why? Because auditions feel scary and unpredictable. Do not despair! Auditioning is a skill that can be learned and the Studio Acting Conservatory is here to help young people prepare for auditions—whether it is for a school production, a competitive summer program, or for collegiate BFA programs or conservatories.

This two-day workshop will demystify the audition process by giving students concrete information and skills for approaching a variety of audition types.

On Day 1, students will learn about audition etiquette, how to find and craft unique monologues; how to prepare for and succeed in cold-readings; and how to put together resumes, headshots and self-tapes.

Day 2 will cover auditions for musical theatre. Students will learn how to select appropriate material, act through song, and establish a character in a short vocal selection. Students also have the option of bringing material they are working on to participate in a masterclass-style work session.
