Dialects Workshop

Class Overview

This weekend dialect intensive will introduce participants to foundational phonetic tools and discover a process for developing performance in dialect. Participants will learn the basics of the International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA) as a tool for precise speech pattern analysis and reproduction. Students will learn a speech warmup before doing a deep-dive into two distinct British English dialects: Received Pronunciation (RP) and Cockney, examining their unique phonetic features, rhythm, and intonation. The session culminates in an opportunity for attendees to perform prepared material, applying their new phonetic understanding, and receive constructive feedback in a supportive environment.
